Fentanyl Urine Test Panel Expansion and Method Change.
Beginning April 9, 2018, the Fentanyl Urine Drug Test will be expanded to include confirmation of the metabolite norfentanyl and 9 synthetic analogs of fentanyl. Through scientific analysis and observed changes to positivity rates, Redwood Toxicology Laboratory has verified the use and misuse of multiple fentanyl analogs. As a result, 9 new analogs will be added to the new test-expanding the panel to detect a total of 11 fentanyls.
Additionally, the confirmation method will be changed from gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), allowing for enhanced sensitivity in detection and lower cut-offs. The cutoff levels for all analytes will be lowered to 0.5 ng/mL.
No action is required for customers who have been testing for these drugs. Confirmation of presumptive positive specimens will now use the updated methodology without any interruption in service. In February 2018, Redwood Toxicology Laboratory will begin releasing urine enzyme immunoassay (EIA) screen-only results on the same day that specimens are received at the laboratory.
